A NEW way to fight the lionfish invasion - EAT 'EM!

It is no news that the lionfish has invaded the coast of the Dominican Republic, and most of the Caribbean. It is true that it is a very effective predator, with no known natural predators in the Atlantic, and it has become a regional pest. Tension was high on the final day of the competition as the top women had their final dive determining who would take home the gold medal. OIL SPILL UPDATE: Latest oil trajectory data from Florida Keys

Oil trajectory maps, released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show non-contiguous, light sheens of oil and scattered tar balls from the Gulf oil spill in the Loop Current remaining well to the northwest of the Florida Keys through Friday and likely beyond.

According to NOAA, the forecast position of the southern point of the non-contiguous sheens and tarballs for Friday, May 27, is about 225 miles to the west,northwest of Key West.

Cold temperatures causing coral bleaching in South Florida and the Keys

Sustained cold water temperatures in South Florida and the Florida Keys triggered severe coral bleaching and even coral death, alerting resource managers and prompting a coordinated assessment response from the science and scuba diving communities. 150 Scuba Diving Santas brave cold waters for charity

More than 150 scuba divers dressed in full Santa Clause outfits braved the cold waters near Great Britain last weekend to set a world record and raise money for charity.

Divers find preserved sunken stern-wheeler

A perfectly preserved stern-wheeler has been discovered on the bottom of Lake Laberge, about 30 miles north of Whitehorse.

Secret WWII Japanese Subs Discovered

(National Geographic) - After 60 years in a watery Hawaiian grave, two World War II-era Japanese attack submarines have been discovered near Pearl Harbor, marine archaeologists announced. A special talking about these vessels and the find of the wreckage in the Pacific Ocean airs TUESDAY November 17 on the National Geographic channel.

New Underwater Museum Slated for Cancun, Mexico

Cancun Mexico has announced a new attraction specifically targeting recreational SCUBA divers, snorkelers and watersports enthusiasts. Later this month, the first of many sculptures will be placed underwater to help create what is being called "the world's largest underwater museum."

Lionfish Spotted in Bonaire Waters

The following was reported by Susan Davis of the Bonaire Insider:

Tuesday, two recreational divers found a juvenile lionfish at the northern dive site, Nukove.  As requested by STINAPA, they mapped the location and shot confirming video, and then reported the sighting to the Bonaire National Marine Park.
